State Superintendent Mike Flanagan Releases Statement on the Passage of House Bill 4163

Thursday, December 01, 2011

The following is a statement from State Superintendent Mike Flanagan on the final passage of House Bill 4163:

"The protection of our children from physical and emotional harm is a moral obligation and responsibility of everyone. I applaud the House of Representatives for its commitment and development of House Bill 4163 that requires every school in Michigan to have a comprehensive and effective policy to protect children from being bullied. This has been an emotional issue and I appreciate the Senate showing the leadership to reconsider its position today and completing this cooperative process with respect to every side of this debate for the protection of all schoolchildren."

NOTE:
The Michigan Senate passed House Bill 4163 by a vote of 35-2, without amendment. The bill will now go to Governor Rick Snyder for his consideration.
