Accessibility

CEN and Information About Accommodations for Users with Disabilities

The CEN Web site is designed to be user-friendly and compatible with software applications and hardware devices typically used by persons with disabilities. For persons with disabilities using CEN as an employee of a school or agency staff, it is the responsibility of the employer to make reasonable accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Any accommodations will, of course, depend upon the nature of the individual user’s needs (e.g., for hearing, vision, physical accommodations). Accommodations are generally provided through your computer’s software or hardware.

Software – The CEN Web site has been created to primarily involve the user’s:

  • Operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Linux)

  • Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL)

  • Free Adobe Reader plug-in that operates with the above

Configuring the operating system for accommodations - Windows, MAC, Linux

Configuring the browser for accommodations – Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL

  • Internet Explorer – go to the Microsoft Accessibility site at www.microsoft.com/enable/products/microsoft.htm and select the version of Internet Explorer you are using (Products Resources).

  • Netscape - consult the help documentation.

  • AOL – consult the Director of Accessibility at telephone 703-265-3469 or email dfletter@aol.com

Adobe Reader

Adobe provides a Web site dedicated to accommodations for visually impaired users at www.access.adobe.com.

Hardware

The Office of Special Education and Early Intervention Services sponsors Michigan’s Assistive Technology Resource (MATR) project. This project is intended to develop agencies’ capacity to meet students’ education-related needs. MATR may also be able to direct you to sources addressing CEN users’ accommodations needs.
