Figure 1 - Coordinated Education Involves Student's Post-School Vision

Coordinated education assists the student in developing a postsecondary vision and the pathway to obtain the vision. This aligned educational process consists of rigor, relevance, and relationships.

Rigor

The student is challenged to meet his or her maximum educational potential, and rigor is provided through supports and accommodations, age appropriate transition assessments, standards and benchmarks, EDP/IEP goals and services, and graduation requirements.

Relevance

Relevance is instilled through leadership experiences and service learning. Examples include: job shadowing and school work programs, work-based learning, career curricula/activities, electives, course of study, refined vision, dual enrollment, person centered planning, and career and technical education.

Relationships

Relationships with family, students, the school, the community, the workplace, and agencies provide mentoring supports, allow for goal setting, and promote self determination.
