Students with Visual Impairments

Psychological Consultation Services Helpline

 

The Michigan Department of Education Low Incidence Outreach (MDE-LIO) now offers the expertise of a highly qualified and experienced, certified school psychologist for consultation purposes.

MDE-LIO’s school psychologist has extensive experience in assessing students with visual impairments, including those with multiple impairments. The following is a list of services related to supporting psychological assessments of students with a visual impairment.

The MDE-LIO psychologist may:

  • Provide consultation pertaining to issues in psychological assessment of students with visual impairments via email or phone.
  • Assist the local school psychologist/educational team in test selection.
  • Assist the local school psychologist/educational team in the design of alternative testing procedures.
  • Recommend and customize interventions in specific cases.
  • Provide support to educational staff and parent(s)/guardian(s) by providing explanations and interpretations of specific tests (cognitive, achievement, affective) and test results.
